I am a undergraduate student who is living in a residential hall on campus. My hall society is going to organize a " cafe cruise " in downtown tomorrow night. Semi-formal cocktail dress is the required constume.
What’s is a cafe cruise ? What do " cocktail dresses " mean ?

Cafe cruise probably means no alcohol. Cocktail dresses mean the affair is dressy but not a formal, long gown type of thing. Cocktail dresses are usually the shorter version of sophisticated dress for the girls. So a guy would be expected to dress semi-formal, with a tie and jacket, like a nice suit but a tuxedo would not be required.

It sounds like a feminized version of a "pub crawl." If cocktail dresses are the required attire, I would say that you are not invited. Lucky you!
A cocktail dress is fancier than a female would wear to the office, but much shorter than a formal evening gown would be.

so if is semi formal put on black pants and long sleeve nice top and u will be OK when is semi formal u do not need a tie…..but just in case get a clip on one and when u get there if no one has one on remove it and put it in your pocket…
as of cafe cruise in my campus is a nice way to say having drinks or coffee witch ever u prefer …. and please do not be nervous they like to get to know everybody how lives in campus have fun…………………….

A cocktail dress is worn only by women. It is a knee-length, one-piece dress that is worn when drinking cocktails. A man can wear a suit to a cocktail party since it is semi-formal.
