I heard there’s a marijuana cafe in Vancouver, Canada where you can smoke weed legally – is this true?

Posted by admin on March 7th, 2010 and filed under downtown cafe | 13 Comments »

I saw a documentary a long time ago where people were smoking dope in a coffeehouse type place in downtown Vancouver and the cops didn’t bother them at all.
When did marijuana become legal? Where is this place ’cause I want to check it out myself!

There are a number of cafes on the Pot Block on Hastings in Vancouver. Yes, people do smoke weed there but it is not legal. The reason the cops don’t bug them is because those cafes are in the downtown east side where a bunch of hippies smoking weed and drinking coffee are the least of the cops concerns. The places get busted every now and then but they stay open for business.

Medical marijuana is legal throughout Canada but it is not legal for recreational use. However, in Vancouver (can’t speak for other cities) if you are discrete about your use and don’t cause problems for other people, the cops will pretty much just ignore you. People still get busted but every time someone I know has been busted, they’ve had their pot taken from them and that’s it. I’m sure people do get into bigger trouble than that because, well, some people love mouthing off at the cops, especially the VPD.

I believe it used to be a bakery and now a cafe.

This is a great addition to this part of Downtown. Brown Bar is right across the street and Gumbo’s is kitty corner in the Brown Building. This intersection now has choices and three good reasons to keep coming back to the area. I had fun on this adventure. When you check it out I’ll bet you will too. http://www.theamscafe.com/

My 14th Birthday At DownTown Disney In California?

Posted by admin on March 1st, 2010 and filed under downtown cafe | 5 Comments »

For my 14th birthday, I was going to invite 3 of my friends and have us and my parents go to downtown disney and eat dinner at the rain forest cafe. What else should we do while we are there?

    Thanks!

Since you’re going with your friends, I’d enjoy going through the shops there. They have a wide variety of fun stores. Then make sure you enjoy the fireworks display. It’s free! There are often street performances there as well.

How to get from BART to UC Berkeley Free Speech Cafe?

Posted by admin on February 25th, 2010 and filed under downtown cafe | 1 Comment »

I’m a visiting High School student and tomorrow I’m meeting up with a Cal student for an independent tour and I’m supposed to meet him in front of Free Speech Cafe.

I’m getting off the BART at the Downtown Berkeley station, and I need help with how to get to the Free Speech Cafe from there. Please! Any help is greatly appreciated.

The FSC is at the entrance to Moffitt Library, which is between Memorial Glade and California Hall.

Walk east on Center Street for one block til you hit campus. Bear slightly left to the curving road that will take you through the West Gate. Go straight until you hit West Circle, bear left around the circle to Wickson Road, and Moffitt will be the big building that comes up in front of you. (The Life Sciences bldg will be on your right.)

Here’s a map for reference. Just find Moffitt, and you can use the arrows to move around campus to get your bearings:

24-hour cafes in downtown Kingston, Ontario?

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2010 and filed under downtown cafe | 3 Comments »

I’m looking for a 24-hour cafe or public space in downtown Kingston, Ontario. Something near Queen’s University or on Princess Street. Preferably some place with washrooms.

I can’t think of anything open that late except for the Denny’s – which is nowhere near downtown.

The JDUC (John Deutsch University Center) is open 24 hours, I think, but if security caught you sleeping there, they might escort you out of the building. There’s also no cafe, it closes at something like 10pm. But it has washrooms.

OH! Tim Horton’s. I’m not sure if the one on Bagot and Princess is open 24 hours, but there’s one at the base of Princess, near where the ferry to Wolfe Island boards, that is. It’s not the closest thing to Queen’s Campus, but it’s open 24 hours. The one on Bagot and Princess is obviously closer, but I really can’t remember if they are open 24h.
