  • 10. Cafés and the Culture of Drink

Posted by admin on May 30th, 2010 and filed under cafes | No Comments »

    France Since 1871 (HIST 276)

Because drinking is such an integral part of French culture, alcohol abuse has been historically ignored. Although there have been celebrated attempts to address this problem, such as Zola’s L’Assomoir, it is only in the past five or ten years that the government has seriously tried to tackle the problem of alcoholism. One of the major ways in which alcohol is embedded in the cultural identity of the country is the close association of certain wines and liquors with their regions of production. Likewise, different types of bars serve as loci for social interaction, and have always played a central role in rural as well as urban life.

Is Disneyland (Anaheim) connected to Downtown Disney?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under downtown cafe | 3 Comments »

I need to know because we are getting picked up & dropped off around Rainforest Cafe — and it says you can do it at Downtown Disney.

    Thank you. :)

Yes, Downtown Disney is connected to Disneyland. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the dropoff by Rainforest Cafe/ESPN Zone to get to the entrance to Disneyland. However, did you know there is a really cool place to get dropped off/picked up? It’s on Harbor Blvd, just south of the Disneyland main walking entrance. It’s a 15-minute parking lot, for pickup and dropoff. A bit hard to see the first time, but a very short walk (about 2 minutes) to the front entrance.

Are there better tips at TGI Friday’s, Cool River Cafe, or nicer restaurants? What’s a better place to work?

    at the airport

Table-service fine-dining establishments always have the largest tips. The average bill is $60 per person. But there aren’t many of them at the airport. So all of the steak houses will have the same tips.
The key is finding out how many tables each waiter gets. If you get 4 tables you aren’t going to make as much as if you get 7 tables. Visit at dinner and ask the hostess. She will tell you.
