Union Square cafe
These are my favorites:
Best Vegetarian: Cafe Sunflower
Best Fish Tacos: Meehan’s
Best Pizza: Marietta Pizza Company
Best Italian: La Tavola
Best Sushi: Orient Express (Vinings)
Best Indian: Swapna
Thoughts on these or any other categories?
Best Vegetarian – cafe Sunflower, completely agree
Best Fish Taco – Taqueria del Sol, Meehans is disgusting, check their health department score, very dirty restaurant, very poor management, always running out of half their menu
Best Pizza – Fellini’s
Best Italian – Try Verenza, relatively new, from the owners of Haven, La Tavola is quite good though
Best Sushi – MF Sushi or new MF Buckhead, but very expensive, used to go to Orient Express years ago when I lived in Cobb
Best Indian – no clue, so I’ll do best Thai – Nan
My husband and I are thinking of opening our own Italian cafe or small restaurant in an area that does not have a lot of competition, that we know of yet…
Anyone with experience here, know if there is any potential of earning an actual profit from running our own restaurant business… or is it ususally a break even business? If so, about how long would you say it takes to start earning a profit on your own restaurant?
Sergino: Cosa? Tu mangia mi ristorante!
I have opened many restaurants. Here are some things to really think about.
What kind of experience do you have?
What will your menu look like?
What do you think your food cost will be?
How will you train your staff?
Where will you hire them from?
Where is the stores location?
What if the traffic like in that area?
What will the equipment package cost?
What willl your intial inventory cost?
What level of operating captial will you need?
What vendors will you purchase your supplies from?
What will be their payment terms?
What is your marketing plan?
Will you take credit cards?
Who will process those transactions and what are the associated cost?
Where are your proforma income and expense statements?
What will be your average check?
What are you projecting as your customer count?
What type of contigency plan will you have if your average check and customer count are not met?
Who will get certified as a sanatarian so you are in compliance with health department?
Have you thought about the insurances you need? ie customer falls, get sick, store burns down?
What will you sinage package look like?
What will be the hours of operation?
What systems will you use to control labor cost?
What systems will you use to control food cost?
What will be your breakeven sales cost?
Who will fix your equipment?
Now, i have not gotten into if you can cook or train people to cook, or if you know anything about even operating a restaurant. There is a lot to think of and this is no where near complete. now you see why so many fail – people failed to plan. my advice, go work in one at every station, manage one – learn from someone who has done it, copy the good toss the bad. I hope this helps, sorry i did not spell check
good cafe / restaurant /coffee shop for quait time or say privacy in the day time from colaba to bandra but not very expensive.
dude u can’t get privacy in mumbai 4 cheap
I have a business idea for a cafe/restaurant that serves healthy food. One that lists the calorific content of all the dishes and is geared towards helping people maintain a healthy lifestyle. I don’t know if any such places exist and I was wondering if, with the growing obesity problem, such a place would be a good venture??
It is a very good idea. I saw a program where these guys set up a Mcdonalds type restaurant but all organic and flame grilled, no fryers. Not alot of people wanted to risk not liking the taste, plus to cook healthy stuff you need to spend and charge a little more money. I know there are all organic supermarkets now I would like to try. But definately an all healthy restaurant is a good idea. Funny thing is that if you know what you are doing, you can order a healthy meal just about anywhere. Educate people as much as you can in your restaurant, this will keep them coming back and they will spread the word.
Best of luck!
I want to start an internet cafe near a university. What can you suggest to make the business work?
Firstly, if you have no experience in the internet cafe business, I’d advise that you work in one for the next six months or so doing everything from busing tables and washing dishes to waiting tables and cooking if they’ll allow you back there and if you have the skills. This will give you some of the work experience that you’ll need to understand and run an internet cafe profitably.
If this is your first business venture, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I’d call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE. Ask for someone who has a background in restaurants and internet cafes and they’ll try their best to match you with the right counselor.
The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting an internet cafe and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you’ll concentrate on (your market ) and how you’ll get them to find out and want to come to your fabulous internet cafe.
The location is important but doesn’t make it successful. To prove that all you have to do is walk down a street in your town where there are several nice restaurants all in a row and you’ll find one or two that are empty while the others are very busy. It has to do with menu, ambiance, and your reputation at the beginning and over time.
You also have to have food handling licenses, the right zoning, the right city and county licenses and permits and you have to be skilled at negotiating with your landlord about who’ll stand the cost of the build-out or the changes to the premises to make it ready for your look and feel.
You also have to worry about the normal business planning and management issues related to starting up any business.
Take a look and read some of the articles at:

especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business. Also try their Blog and their Bulletin Board.
Hope this helped.
I want to take my little sister there she is eight years old. I want to take her there before the summer ends. I hope she will like it since she says i dont spend enough time with her. I am 24 by the way.
That is sweet of you to want to take your sister out and hang out with her. I have never been to american girl cafe. Your sister looks up to you and cherishes you, you set an example to her and influence her in a huge way, don’t take her for granted just becuase she is so young and you have nothing in common with her, be a good sister!
Preferably not a knitting store or knitting cafe. Just a place with good coffee, comfortable chairs, and a cozy interior.
I want to get together with some friends to knit on a Sunday evening.
depends what area of the city you live in.
kensington has lots of great cafes and places to gather to share a purl or two.
alternative grounds on roncesvalles is a good bet but can get rather busy in the evenings.
linux on harbord st is a great place and has internet access.
happy stitching
Could anyone please provide me a recipe for a fluffy refrigrated cheesecake like the one sold in the well known cafes?
